This is the third year that Lions District 4-C6 has participated in the City of Hope Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer. Lions stepped up to the plate the first year and raised over $10,000 for breast cancer research, treatment and education at City of Hope in Duarte, California. Last year we raised almost $17,000 and both years District 4-C6 was the second highest fundraiser in the Walk for Hope in San Francisco.
This year we ask Lions in all districts to join Lions for Hope in our walk from the Ferry Building to AT&T Park along The Embarcadero in beautiful San Francisco or to donate to a fellow Lion to raise money for City of Hope specifically for breast cancer. How many of us have friends, moms, sisters or neighbors who have been affected?
City of Hope’s Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer is an opportunity for women, their families and friends to come together and demonstrate unity in the face of a disease that takes the lives of those we love. When we walk together, we are strong. Walk for Hope is held in cities across the country to support lifesaving breast cancer research, treatment and education at City of Hope.
Join District 4-C6 and District 4-C4 in our multiple district effort to raise $20,000 for City of Hope for breast cancer research and treatment. We all know what a wonderful institution City of Hope is. City of Hope is sanctioned by Lions Clubs International and MD-4 and we support them with club donations. Let’s focus our support of City of Hope on breast cancer, which affects 1 out of 8 women and all of us when it strikes a loved one or dear friend. Sponsor booths with giveaways, a Dedication Wall for participants to pay tribute to those affected by breast cancer and a Survivor Booth with special giveaways for breast cancer survivors.
Children can visit our Kids’ Pavilion sponsored by Popsicle for face painting, chalk drawing, balloon artistry and other activities.
Teams of 10 or more participants can gather in our Team Pavilion before and after the walk and receive raffle tickets for their team members to win fantastic prizes.
Complimentary team photos will be available for all teams on site.

Thelma Batilo of Milpitas Executive Lions Club has a creative way to show club support and participation in the Walk for Hope. When she registered, she registered as MILPITAS HOST EXECUTIVE LIONS CLUB. It stands out and it allows club members to donate to their club. The individual donors’ names will show in the scrolling box with the amount they donate. Great idea, Thelma! I hope other clubs and districts will follow along. Wish I had thought of it sooner. Here are the new t-shirts for this year showing our wonderful $100 or more proud sponsors on the back. If you wish to donate $100 for your name or your club’s name on the back, I’ll need to have the donation or pledge for a donation before 9/16 so that I can add the names and order the t-shirts in time for the walk on 10/3. We can use last year’s t-shirts for the walk or you can order the new ones before 9/16. Click here for the order form and email it to me ASAP. Depending on the quantity ordered, the cost should be around $15.
Last year we came in second in fundraising for the San Francisco walk and this year we want to be NUMBER ONE! Gallo has lots of walkers but their total is down.

It’s time to register again for the City of Hope Walk for Hope to be held in San Francisco on Saturday, October 3. Everyone has a personal reason for taking part in the Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer. It may be a sister, mother, best friend, or possibly even yourself. Last year your participation raised over $16,000 for City of Hope in their efforts to find a cure for breast cancer, which affects one in every eight women.
We need your help again. In these tough economic times, it may be difficult for some to participate, but breast cancer does not go away during economic downturns. It never ceases. At City of Hope, breast cancer services and technologies provide women with the best care available. Breast Cancer prevention, early detection and genetic counseling are a priority.
This year our District team name is Lions for Hope. Register for $30 if you wish to match the reg fee or ask friends and relatives to donate to you. Or if you don’t wish to commit to fundraising, donate to one of our team members in any amount to raise his or her total donations.
