Order your Cooking for a Cure cookbook for $15 and all proceeds will be donated to the Lions for Hope Team to raise funds for this year’s Walk for Hope, Women’s Cancers, Women’s Cures. Click cookbook for a list of the yummy recipes contributed by Lions and others from all over Multiple District 4. Send check for $15 each cookbook made out to Linda Pugliese, 111 N. But NOTHING stopped 23 brave and hearty souls from walking for City of Hope in San Francisco on what turned out to be a day with not only a few “showers” forecast, but a downright deluge! San Francisco got an inch of rain, breaking all records, and I know it was all coming down during our walk. Our pink feather boas turned into very wet chicken feathers, but that didn’t stop us.

We all walked the whole course, getting soaked to the skin, laughing and joking along the way. Lions for Hope raised close to $7,000 for City of Hope, Women’s Cancers, Womens’s Cures, and we have until July to keep up our efforts. Cookbooks will be arriving end of June and I will have them at the International Convention in Seattle. I’ll have 200 for sale and $2,000 will be added to our team total. Reserve yours now by sending me a check for $15.

Thank you, 4-C4, 4-C6, Silicon Valley Law Group for all your efforts in making this a very successful year for donations to City of Hope. Thank you, First Spouses Evelyn, Ron, Sandy and Roberta for taking time away from Council of Governors to walk with us.

Hi there!

Thanks for participating in Walk for Hope as a team captain this year! We hope you are having a great time fundraising with your whole team. We sincerely appreciate all your efforts and cannot wait to see all of you this weekend. This year’s walk is shaping up to be a great one.

We have a special team area that I would like to tell you about. For teams that have pre-registered 5 people or more, please check in under the big banner that reads “Team Area.” Here you will receive a list of your team members, raffle tickets (one per participant), and a team sign. Please distribute the tickets to your team members, after the walk, our raffle winner numbers will be read and winners must be present to win so be sure to stick around. The signs with your team name written on it will be for the team photo area. You will see a purple carpet in front of a giant Walk for Hope banner. Please have your team photo taken here once your whole team arrives at the walk. There will be volunteers helping with this process.

We will have some fun props for you to take photos with and we encourage you to bring some of your own as well. (ie: boas, sunglasses, beads, etc.) PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL ONLY HAVE A PACKET IF YOU ARE A TEAM OF 5 PRE-REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS OR MORE! However, all teams are encouraged to take photos.

This year will be a fantastic walk and we encourage you to still continue your fundraising and recruiting to ensure you qualify for entrance into the team area and for our team fundraising prizes!

On Saturday, June 4, we will be picking up Council of Governors’ spouses at the Wyndham Hotel at 7:00 a.m. and we’ll carpool and caravan to San Francisco, parking at the Embarcadero Four. I PROMISE we will be back by noon and in time for the Speech Contest.

Justin Hermann Plaza is an elevator ride up from the garage and from there we walk the beautiful Embarcadero, under the SF Bay Bridge, to AT&T Park and back. For those who have “walking” issues, all you need to do is cross the street, sit on a park bench, enjoy the Bay view, the scenery, and the people, and wait for everyone to loop around AT&T Park and then cross the street again.

Make it fun! Wear your feather boas, pink cowgirl hats, funky sunglasses. Bring your kids and your dog and decorate them, too! Let’s have fun while we’re raising funds for City of Hope to find a cure for breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and ALL women’s cancers.

Team Photo Opportunity
This year we have changed our opportunity for teams as we have expanded into the cause of women’s cancers. Teams of 5 or more participants can gather on our Purple Carpet and accessorize accordingly in our wonderful photo booth! They will also receive raffle tickets for their team members to have the opportunity to win fantastic prizes.

Complimentary team photos will be available for ALL teams on site at our standard team photo area as well however we encourage all participants to have teams of at least 5 to ensure your place on the Purple Carpet!

Please note that dogs are welcome and encouraged at this event!

Route and Distance
The 5K Walk/Fun Run route begins at Justin Herman Plaza, follows the Embarcadero sidewalk down to AT&T Park, loops around the ballpark and proceeds back up the sidewalk to the Plaza.

Event Day Festivities
Sponsor booths with giveaways, a Dedication Wall for participants to pay tribute to those affected by women’s cancers, and a Survivor Booth with special giveaways for survivors.

Kids’ Pavilion
Children can visit our Kids’ Pavilion for face painting and other activities.

Pet Pavilion
Dogs are welcome and encouraged at this event! We will have special treats for all animals attending with their owners.

This is the fifth year that Lions District 4-C6 has participated in the City of Hope Walk for Hope. Lions have stepped up to the plate and raised over $40,000 for breast cancer and women’s cancers research, treatment and education at City of Hope in Duarte, California. We ask Lions in all districts to join Lions for Hope in our walk from the Ferry Building to AT&T Park along The Embarcadero in beautiful San Francisco or to donate to a fellow Lion to raise money for City of Hope specifically for Women’s Cancers, Women’s Cures. How many of us have friends, moms, sisters or neighbors who have been affected?

City of Hope’s Walk for Hope to Cure Women’s Cancers is an opportunity for women, their families and friends to come together and demonstrate unity in the face of these diseases that take the lives of those we love. When we walk together, we are strong. Walk for Hope is held in cities across the country to support lifesaving cancer research, treatment and education at City of Hope.
